Macon Volunteer Clinic buys its building
Macon Volunteer Clinic has entered a contract to purchase its building at 376 Rogers Ave. from Coliseum Health System. The clinic has occupied the location since opening in 2003, and the Coliseum had provided the building free of charge since then.
As a recipient of referrals from Macon Volunteer Clinic, federal Stark Law, which deals with physician referrals, prohibits the Coliseum from continuing this philanthropy.
Macon Volunteer Clinic provides free primary medical and dental care, as well as medication assistance, to uninsured working adult residents of Bibb County whose earnings do not exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Under the supervision of the medical director, licensed medical and dental professionals volunteer to provide health services at no cost to eligible patients.
